Wizard of Oz Festival-Ionia
We're off to see the Wizard. . . Dorothy & Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion. . .
. . . and Professor Marvel, Miss Gulch, Auntie Em, the enchanting Glinda the Good Witch. . .all the while watching out for the Wicked Old Witch, a flying monkey or two,a Winkie Guard, an angry apple tree. . .and perhaps some munchkins and even the ol' Wizard himself.

When?  Saturday, June 17,2017!  Where? Downtown Ionia! Our very own 'Red Brick Main Street' will be transformed into our version of the land of Oz.

Children's Parade~To Oz! The parade begins at 10am. Line up is at 9:30am and the parade will proceed down Main Street! Kids are encouraged to dress up in a "Wizard of Oz" costume, but they do not have to in order to participate in the parade! We just hope they will.

: The original "Wizard of Oz" film will be shown at 3:30pm in the historical Ionia Theatre for the vintage price of just .25cents per person!

Exciting tidbits of "The Wizard of Oz"
  • Author L. Frank Baum penned the infamous books of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" beginning in 1900 and wrote a total of 14 books.
  • The  "Wizard of Oz" film is based on the story "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and the first version made as an American silent fantasy film lasting 13 minutes, and debuted March 24, 1910. The cinema screen version opened in theatres on August 25, 1939, and was filmed at MGM studios, Culver City, California.
  • The 75th anniversary of the famous and phenomenal epic film The Wizard of Oz was celebrated in 2014.
