Emergency Warning System
Warning SirensIn 2000, the City of Ionia received a grant to install four new early warning sirens. The sirens have been strategically placed in an attempt to assure that everyone in the community will be able to hear them. The sirens are tested at noon on the first Saturday of each month.
Responding Should you hear the sirens during any other time, this may signal adverse weather and you should seek shelter immediately. After you have done so, please monitor either your radio or television for updates.
Alert & Notification System In 2008, Ionia County received a grant to install an alert and notification system called “City Watch”. The City of Ionia has full access to this system as well and plans to use it to assist us in disseminating alerts and notifications throughout the City.
Details This system will call your home phone with a recorded message as to what the situation may be and what you are asked to do in response. This may be for a lost child, a road closure due to an accident, or even a chemical release.
For those that do not have a home phone or those that would like alerts sent to a different phone (or even receive them through e-mail or text messaging), there will be a sign up process to have your alternative methods added to the system. This will be coming soon.
